Honeymoon - 1

Ola everyone and Happy New Year! We just got back from Cancun and had a wonderful time! The weather was so-so, but we definitely came back more tanned than we left and that was the idea :)

We arrived last Saturday and while they were getting our room ready the first thing we did was go to the beach

Craig's first pina colada in Mexico

Here are some pictures of the resort

At night

The second morning we went for a "free breakfast" at another resort further into Cancun which was lovely, but turned out to be a sales presentation for time shares. It was very interesting and they were going to waive the $500 annual fee if we signed that day, the only problem was that the time share cost $89,900 and they wanted 30% of that while we were sitting there. I kept a straight face...i think they were looking for richer people than us...our downpayment on the house wasn't even $27,000 or whatever it worked out to. We went back to the hotel and spoke with Mauricio, the Air Transat representative and picked a few trips for the rest of the week...

That afternoon we took public transit into Cancun to go shopping because the weather was so-so. Craig is not a fan of public transit but it was much cheaper than a cab so we went. As soon as we got on the bus some lady broke into playing a bunch of songs on the guitar looking for money...i thought she was going to break into Avalancha. it was absolutely terrifying.

Cancun is very-Americanized. Mauricio told us that if we wanted to buy liquor we shouldn't go to the corner store or anything like that...the best deal was at Walmart (!) We picked up some goodies for our relatives and friends and made our way back. The most exciting part was trying to cross the road.

If you take a look at the map you can see how on the right (where the hotels are) it's very narrow with water on both sides. Because of this there are two one-way streets running parallel, one going north and the other going south. They are connected by retournos which is basically a connection between them where you have to make a u-turn to go the other way, which is an adventure on a tour bus. In any case it was very busy and crossing the road was very much like Frogger...making a mad dash to cross the cars going one way, then the reprieve of the median, then making a mad dash to cross the cars going the other way.

Ahhhh, the Mexican Walmart, I remember it well. Sorry to hear your weather wasn't the greatest. We went in January 2006 and we had so-so weather too. They don't tell you that stuff in the brochures.
